Pick three adjectives that describe you. Friendly. Fun. Energetic. The list goes on.
But not once would I have ever dreamed to label myself as creative. Creative was never a word I thought could ever be applied to me. I mean, I like art, I like pretty things, I like making stuff, but I never would have said I could CREATE anything. Following in someone’s footsteps? Sure. Copying a pattern? Definitely.
But I came to realize that being creative doesn’t necessarily mean I need to design my own things. It literally means “someone who creates”. Which I do. Quilts, in particular.
Anyways, a bit about me, since that is why you clicked on the “About” link, I am sure. I was introduced to quilting by my mother-in-law back in 2013, and it has turned into a passion bordering on an obsession (but really, it is). My husband tells me “Jess, you have a problem.” Problem, or passion? …Is there really a difference?
I have a beautiful baby boy, almost four years old, and I am married to one of the best men in the world; he is genuinely supportive and interested in my quilting obsession! (And he cooks and helps clean. No, I will not share.)
Recently, I graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in education. I love working with my students and truly enjoy learning more about my profession.
We live in the beautiful state of Virginia (recently moved from Michigan) and the beauty absolutely takes my breath away. If you’ve never been, you should come visit!
Back to quilting- I enjoy numerous styles of quilts; modern, Amish, Civil War era, and more. I am a member of the local quilt guild, and take classes both online and at my local store. I love learning new techniques as well as creating my own! I also take part in block exchanges, and I would love to try an internet-based exchange program!
I’ve started this blog to help chronicle my journey through the incredible world of quilting. I hope to someday be able to turn quilting into my livelihood by opening up a physical, real-world “Lemon Quilts”.
Welcome to Lemon Quilts!
